Jack Nicklaus carved three nines into the Tortolita foothills northwest of Tucson, climbing past three thousand feet through saguaro stands and desert washes. Wide fairways and heavily contoured greens are framed by bunkering that ranges from small pot hazards to sprawling waste areas running eighty yards along a fairway edge. It hosted the world match play championship in each of its first six years.
