On a remote stretch of the southern Oregon coast, Bandon Dunes built the reputation of the modern American links revival. Six walking-only courses run along and behind the bluffs: David McLay Kidd's original Bandon Dunes that started it all in 1999, Tom Doak's Pacific Dunes, the inland forest-and-dune journey of Coore & Crenshaw's Bandon Trails, the template-inspired Old Macdonald from Tom Doak and Jim Urbina, the bunkerless clifftop Sheep Ranch, and the par-3 Bandon Preserve perched above the Pacific. Every round is walked — caddie or push cart only. Demand long ago outran supply, and the resort now allocates its most sought-after tee times by lottery, so the barriers that matter are winning the draw, committing the budget, and making the journey to a corner of the coast far from any city. Pursuing all six is a rite of passage for the serious course collector.
