The British Isles work of Harry Colt — among the most influential architects the game has produced — gathered into a single pursuit across four countries. It runs from the links he shaped in the north, Royal Portrush's Dunluce and the Old Tom Morris ground he reworked at Muirfield and Royal County Down, to the Surrey and Berkshire heathland he made his own at Sunningdale's Old Course, Wentworth's West, and Swinley Forest, one of his purest heathland designs. It takes in his hand at the Open links of Royal St George's and Royal Liverpool, the post-war reinvention of Royal Dublin, and the heathland of Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire. These are mostly private members' clubs, several among the most closely held in Britain and Ireland, and assembling a round at each is a pursuit measured in patience, invitations, and years.
