Seven of the island of Ireland's greatest links, from the northeast coast to the wild southwest. In the north, Royal County Down beneath the Mountains of Mourne and Royal Portrush, the lone Irish host of The Open. In the Republic: Ballybunion's tumbling Kerry dunes, where Tom Simpson's routing meets the Atlantic; Lahinch, the St Andrews of Ireland by way of Old Tom Morris and Alister MacKenzie; the championship test of Portmarnock outside Dublin; Eddie Hackett's Waterville on the Ring of Kerry; and Old Head, perched on a clifftop promontory high above the sea. Most are private members' clubs that welcome visiting golfers with advance booking. A pursuit through the deepest links country on earth.
