Seven courses bearing the design hand of James Braid — five-time Open Champion turned the most prolific architect Scotland has produced — spread across the country he reshaped from the coast inward. The trail opens on the Angus links of Carnoustie, where Braid's 1926 reconstruction set the championship test still played today, and the Fife shores of Elie and Lundin, where his holes thread through the older ground of Old Tom Morris. It climbs into the Highlands at Nairn and Brora, two of the purest links in the far north, and inland to Perthshire for his moorland masterpiece on the King's Course at Gleneagles and his reworking of Rosemount at Blairgowrie. From open public links to resort fairways to members' clubs that welcome the traveling golfer, these courses vary in character and access alike — and tracing Braid's signature the length of Scotland, from windblown northern links to sheltered Perthshire moorland, is a pursuit of long roads and firm, fast ground.
