Four courses strung along the Monterey Peninsula, home to golf's most photographed meeting of land and sea. Pebble Beach Golf Links, laid out by amateurs Jack Neville and Douglas Grant in 1919, remains the crown jewel — its cliff-top run from the 4th through the 10th and the closing 18th among the most famous holes in the game. Alongside it stand Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s Spyglass Hill, which opens in the dunes before plunging into the Del Monte Forest; the Scottish-inspired Links at Spanish Bay from Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum; and Poppy Hills, the NCGA-owned parkland course that Robert Trent Jones Jr. reworked into the most openly accessible round on the peninsula. The marquee tee times favor resort guests, and the rest of the field takes patience and planning to secure — but this stretch of coast has rewarded the effort since the first tee shot in 1919.
