Twenty-five courses across eleven sites throughout Alabama — conceived in the late 1980s by Dr. David Bronner of the Retirement Systems of Alabama as economic development through golf. The original sites are Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs from 1992-1999, with later additions Ross Bridge (2005), The Shoals (2004-05), and the renovated Lakewood Club courses designed by Roger Rulewich and Bobby Vaughan after Jones's 2000 death. Every course is bookable online at prices well below comparable destinations, stretching from The Shoals near Muscle Shoals south to Lakewood Club on the Gulf Coast. The scale is what makes this a pursuit: Cambrian Ridge, Highland Oaks, and Silver Lakes each feature three eighteen-hole courses, with Capitol Hill offering three more. For golfers drawn to the RTJ Sr. design vocabulary — generous fairways, heroic carries, dramatic elevation — no other single trail offers this much canonical work at this price point.
